For you, Zannyro!

I was looking for an image to use on one of my eBay postings and clicked on the wrong folder.  Or was it the right one after all?  All things happen for a reason … someone must be craving chocolate??????

My friend and fellow, artful blogger, Zannyro, who gives all of us a look through her window into the woods, happens to be a chocolate lover, too.  So this one’s for you, Miss Z … minus the calories.  Ha!  (She’s probably going to say I’m torturing her). Namaste’

Hubby’s boss sent us a box of these delectable chocolate covered strawberries last year and of course I had to photograph them before they were gone.  Oh, I did let Hubby have a couple.  Just kidding … we shared them equally 🙂

Belly Fat Begone!

The reason I’m posting a picture of today’s lunch is that my WS (wonderful spouse) and I are on the South Beach diet.  Actually, I hate the word diet, so I’m going to stick with new, healthy eating plan.  It consists mainly of lean protein, plenty of veggies, some good fats, and basically VERY LOW carbs.  No white sugar at all.  Anything white we just don’t eat.  Now there are many, many, many diets and eating plans out there, but most are hard to stick to and require some real concentration (stress) on what to do and what not to do.  What to mix with what, etc.  These days I’m into simple.  So for us this is rather simple.  Anyway, I’m not promoting any diets here, but my WS suggested I take a picture of his lunch plate, so I did.

There is one thing I can recommend, though, even if you’re not watching your weight.  I’m using My Fitness Pal to record what I eat and how much water I drink.  Truly an eye-opener and it’s totally free.  It keeps count of calories, carbs, fat and protein.  For those of us who love chocolate (and we know who we are, right, Zannyro?) there’s always the Hershey’s sugar-free dark chocolate.  It does the trick for me.  Will I have to cheat once in a while and have a piece of carrot cake or something like that?  Yes!  Once in a while but not often.  I like how I feel now without the carbs/sugar.  Namaste’

Low-fat cottage cheese, grape tomatoes, Hebrew National 97% fat-free beef dogs, and baked zucchini with parmesan, olive oil and garlic.  I had one dog; WS had two 😉

Chocolate without the HFCS

We went to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast this morning and on the way out, decided to pick up two of the new Hershey bars.  We love chocolate and were pleased to know that these particular bars are made from the original Hershey recipe. The Hershey company has been making chocolate bars since 1900 when Milton Snavely Hershey produced the first bar.  The bars in the picture are the ones made (and available for a limited time) with the original recipe, containing no high fructose corn syrup.

According to “The Nibble” (a magazine about specialty foods) chocolate dates back as far as 1500 B.C. when the Aztec and Mayan cultures discovered the value of the cacao plant.  Cacao trees have grown wild for about 10,000 years.  Some historians believe that chocolate has been around for 2,000 years but research now claims it could be even older.  Even though there are conflicting dates, one thing is for sure – chocolate is a taste that most people love and I’m no exception.  (No, these are not part of my eating plan, but a girl’s gotta have some chocolate once in a while.)

Originally chocolate was a bitter drink made from the cacao bean which probably accounts for the bitter taste in dark chocolate.  Some researchers say that chocolate is actually good for you as long as it’s the dark variety and has at least 80% cacao.  Others say differently so who knows?
