Day Seven of Seven Days of Black and White

For the last day of this project, I chose this image of Metal Man, aka Photog, aka my muse. I shot “Photog” in Tucson, where I found him standing there with his camera pointed. He’s a life-sized sculpture created from sheet metal. He and I spent many hours together. I talked; he listened. Ha! I photographed him from every angle possible, short of me lying on the hot concrete to get him from the bottom up.

I added the text to his lens because of the origin of the word IMAGINE …

After all, isn’t that where any image comes from? The imagine-ation?

Day Five of Seven

Day Five of Seven Days of Black and White

I have to say I’m very grateful to my uncle for this image. He’s the one who taught me how to use a bounce flash (and bought me my first one). This was taken with my Olympus DSLR, which is what I used the most before I purchased my Nikon. I guess you could call it my first love.

For this image, I isolated two flowers from a bouquet I bought at the store. Yes, I know you’re shaking your head, knowing that no flowers come into my home without being photographed. They make the best subjects because they don’t blink when the flash goes off. LOL.

Next, I put these up against a white backdrop, arranged them the way I wanted, used the manual mode on the camera, and positioned the bounce at different angles until I got what I wanted.  I did this on the patio, where the ceiling was lower. I found that high ceilings don’t work very well for getting this kind of effect. The light from the flash has to travel too far.

Silhouette

In response to today’s blog post prompt, I chose this silhouette of a saguaro cactus. When these grow in the desert, they are almost always in close proximity to a Palo Verde or Mesquite tree, as in this image.

TBT – Vintage Bath Soap

During my 366 blog, this is the image I shot on 12/28/2012. I love the unique qualities of a vintage sign. I kept it on the side of my garden tub and was reminded daily of the giver … my daughter.

After contemplating doing a photo a day for 2018, I have decided against it. Once is enough for that kind of project. It was fun back then, but in some ways it drove me a little crazy. A little crazy? A lot crazy if the truth be told. LOL!

TBT – Mirror

I don’t remember where I purchased this mirror, and it doesn’t matter, but when I saw it, I had to have it. I love the retro look of it and her dragonfly wings. One day I noticed the reflection on the wall of the glass flowers on my nightstand. Just had to take the shot!

The dragonfly is often seen around water, ponds or on the edge of a river or lake. It symbolizes the affinity with the realm of feelings, water being a powerful symbol for emotions and the unconscious. If the spirit of the dragonfly comes to you, you may be called to explore your emotions in a light and joyful manner.

When we were in Arizona, there was a red dragonfly that I saw several mornings in a row that landed on the gate by the pool. It was an amazing creature to watch and it let me get close enough to photograph it. Thank you!

Red Wine

Red, white or blush? My choice is red. When I found this particular bottle, I knew I had to buy it. Especially because of what the back label said.

I lived in Napa for a while. If you’ve never been there, it’s worth the experience. Cheers!

Well, my dear readers, it’s Throwback Thursday again. I hope this finds you all well and thriving.

This image is from my days in Tucson. So hot there now that I won’t be going back until winter. Can you blame me????

It’s hard to get a perspective of how large this stone thunderbird is. It’s on a busy road and I didn’t have a lot of time to get the image without getting run over … ha!

I am inspired by the artist who did this, especially what is inscribed under the wings:

“The eyes of the future are looking back at us. To protect what is wild is to protect what is gentle.” (Truth).

For me, the word EXQUISITE conjures up feelings, not images and yet this image does it for me … feelings that anything is possible if we can achieve our own balance.

Whew!

Throwback Thursday – It’s not supposed to be this hot here!!!! Going to reach 101 today and 104 tomorrow. Yeah, I know that there are some of you in hotter places than this, but this is Oregon.

August may normally hit the low 90’s for us here, but I left southern AZ a couple of years ago and now it feels like I’ve gone back … ugh!

For those of you experiencing hot, hot, hot, like we are here’s a nice glass of ice cold lemon water for you (with love).

I shot this image in Tucson while on my patio trying to cool off. After I publish this post, I’ll be getting a drink just like this. Stay cool out there!

Cooling Off

Succulent Horse

Yes, I know it’s been a while. I’ve been really busy with too many things to mention. Ugh!

This image is one I took the liberty of playing with. And you know me … I love to play! I used an image that I took of some succulent plants, applied a cartoon effect and used a horse overlay found in the BeFunky app. BeFunky is a very cool application for special effects on images. You can make collages, cards and all kinds of wonderful things.

I have the premium version ($24.95/yr) but you can do plenty of creative things in the free version. It’s also available as an Android app.
